Wine Victoria Chair Damien Sheehan said the subsidy was still available to eligible wine producers and would ensure our industry remains sustainable
"As a result of this subsidy the wine industry can continue to support the Government's economic objectives in relation to regional tourism and job creation," Mr Sheehan said.
The cellar door subsidy is a rebate of Federal taxes on cellar door sales available to producers who exhaust the WET Rebate. The subsidy is a recognition of the importance of cellar door operations in driving regional tourism.
"Most cellar door operations require significant investment at considerable cost to Victorian wineries, so require strong visitation to remain viable," Mr Sheehan said
The Victorian Government's cellar door rebate supports this aim by supporting industry's commitment to the considerable and on-going costs associated with cellar door activities.
The section of the wine industry most affected by the rebate is the medium to large sized wineries – which have sophisticated cellar door operations, employ large numbers of staff, and attract the greatest visitation.
